Game over

STEVE MACFARLANE -- Calgary Sun

, Last Updated: 11:00 AM ET

SUN'S THREE STARS:

1. F Tony Amonte, Flames -- The most active player on the ice all night.

2. G Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- As usual, he made the big stops when all else failed.

3. D Robyn Regehr, Flames --Made the Leafs' most talented players seem invisible and also contributed on the scoresheet.

- - -

TURNING POINT:

Miikka Kiprusoff made five key saves while the Leafs were on the powerplay minutes into the third.

- - -

BIG SAVE:

Ed Belfour kept the Leafs' hopes alive with a little more than 12 minutes left in regulation when he kicked out his right pad to deny Steve Reinprecht after a nice setup from Tony Amonte on a two-on-one rush.

Honorable mention goes to Daymond Langkow for scooping up the puck in the crease after Darcy Tucker's shot slid past Miikka Kiprusoff 90 seconds into the game.

- - -

HARD HIT:

Jordan Leopold tried to move the puck along the boards in the Flames' end with five minutes left in the second period but ran into a wall named Wade Belak, who stopped the Calgary defenceman in his tracks during the hard head-on collision.

- - -

UNSUNG HERO:

Darren McCarty was all over the ice, forechecking, hitting and generally trying to make things happen.

- - -

SCRATCHES:

CALGARY -- F Byron Ritchie (knee) out indefinitely. F Marcus Nilson (head) day-to-day. D Roman Hamrlik (knee) week-to-week.

TORONTO -- F John Pohl and F Mariusz Czerkawski were healthy scratches. F Eric Lindros (wrist), Nik Antropov (knee) and Carlo Colaiacovo (wrist) out indefinitely.

- - -

BURNING QUESTION:

Will anyone ever break Miikka Kiprusoff's single-season franchise record of six shutouts?

- - -

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Flames improve their record to 5-0-1 against the Eastern Conference, their only loss a 1-0 shootout decision in Philadelphia.

- - -

NOTEWORTHY:

D Rhett Warrener, F Tony Amonte and F Stephane Yelle all returned to the Flames lineup last night.
