1. F Vernon Fiddler, Predators -- Scored the Preds' second goal to give team new life in the second.

2. G Philippe Sauve, Flames -- Made some stellar saves despite the loss.

3. F Jerred Smithson, Predators -- Former Hitmen product potted a goal and could have had another.

TURNING POINT:

Preds F Jerred Smithson's third-period goal tied the game at 3-3 and swung momentum in Nashville's direction.

BIG SAVE:

Flames G Philippe Sauve was tested while his team was shorthanded late in the first period and he responded in his first home start of the season. After making a few saves during a scramble in front, Sauve stopped D Dan Hamhuis' screened point shot, then shot to his post to rob F Vernon Fiddler on the rebound.

HARD HIT:

Predators D Dan Hamhuis rocked Flames F Tony Amonte with a hip check in the third period, sending his victim hard into teammate F Steve Reinprecht.

UNSUNG HERO:

Nashville D Dan Hamhuis generated some offence and unleashed a couple of hard hits around his blueline, too.

FIGHT CARD:

Flames F Chris Simon tried to exact a little revenge on Preds F Darcy Hordichuk shortly after his hit from behind on D Jordan Leopold a minute into the game. Simon let a couple of hard punches fly but took a couple from his opponent before being tugged to the ice.

NASHVILLE -- F David Legwand (knee), F Scott Nichol (foot), F Jeremy Stevenson (knee), F Scott Walker (hernia). F Kris Beech and D Jamie Allison were healthy observers.

Did the Calgary Flames really allow 40 shots against?

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Predators (24-7-3) keep pace with Detroit in the Western Conference's Central Division standings, while the Flames (21-12-4) fail to open up a lead on idle Edmonton.

Flames G Philippe Sauve made his first regular-season start at the Saddledome last night ... Flames F Jason Wiemer's second-period assist was his 200th point in the NHL ... Preds F Jordin Tootoo has a goal and three assists in five games since being recalled from AHL Milwaukee ... Flames D Dion Phaneuf leads the team in powerplay goals (8) and points (17). The rookie is also tied with F Daymond Langkow with four GWG.
