SUN THREE STARS:

1. G Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- Made a number of heartstoppers to keep it close.

2. F Kristian Huselius, Flames -- Set up Regehr's third-period goal after scoring himself in the first.

3. F Todd Bertuzzi, Canucks -- Had many chances to put his team up for good.

TURNING POINT:

Flames D Robyn Regehr blasted his point shot high past G Alex Auld for the go-ahead goal 9:34 into the final period, shortly after the Canucks tied the game 1-1.

BIG SAVE:

Canucks F Todd Bertuzzi slipped past both D Robyn Regehr and D Jordan Leopold for a slow-motion breakaway on G Miikka Kiprusoff but the Flames goalie stoned the winger twice with the left pad.

- - -

HARD HIT:

Canucks F Brendan Morrison hammered Flames D Andrew Ference along the side boards deep in Calgary's zone halfway through the first period. Ference managed to retaliate with a little stickwork, though.

UNSUNG HERO:

F Daymond Langkow played another strong game for the Flames. He assisted on F Kristian Huselius' goal and did some dirty work defensively.

- - -

FIGHT CARD:

Flames F Byron Ritchie went after Canucks D Kevin Bieksa at Calgary's blueline midway through the first after taking exception to a few stick jabs. Unfortunately for Ritchie, his face took more than a few pokes during the lengthy bout.

BURNING QUESTION:

When will the Canucks finally get a win against Northwest Division rivals Calgary and Edmonton this season?

- - -

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Flames (21-11-4) leap past the Canucks and Oilers to hold top spot in the division based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.

- - -

NOTEWORTHY:

Flames F Jason Wiemer played his 700th NHL game last night ... Canucks F Markus Naslund's 228 points since the start of the 2002-03 season are a league best. Nipping at his heels is San Jose Sharks F Joe Thornton with 224 ... Vancouver F Brendan Morrison is second among active ironmen with 384 straight games under his belt after last night's match. He trails only Colorado Avalanche D Karlis Skrastins (386).
