Calgary Flames netminder Miikka Kiprusoff's talent has been recognized by the NHL for a second time this season.

Kiprusoff was named defensive player of the week yesterday for his performances against Philadelphia and Ottawa.

In a 1-0 loss on the road against Philly, Kiprusoff made 37 stops and allowed just one goal in the shootout, earning a shutout in the losing cause. He followed with a clutch 20-save performance Saturday to help the Flames beat the Sens 2-1.

Kiprusoff posted a combined 0.44 GAA and a .983 save percentage for the week.

He earned the same honour for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6.

In other Flames news, Matthew Lombardi, who has been sidelined since Oct. 20 with a high ankle sprain, has been assigned to the AHL's Omaha Knights for conditioning. He will suit up tomorrow night when the Knights host the Milwaukee Admirals.
