CALGARY FLAMES AT DETROIT RED WINGS

TONIGHT AT 5:30 P.M., TV: PAY-PER-VIEW, RADIO: FAN 960

COMING IN:

A 2-0 loss in Nashville ended what was a very good month of November for the Flames (10-2-1). That said, they are now winless in their last two outings and have a 2-2-1 mark in their last five.

After dropping six of seven, one in overtime, the Wings left California with back-to-back wins over San Jose and Los Angeles to reaffirm their status atop the Western Conference.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:

This is the third meeting of the season, with the home club victorious in the first two. Detroit used five powerplay goals in their home opener to humble Calgary 6-3 but the Flames returned the favour with a one-sided 3-1 game at the Saddledome in mid-November. The Joe hasn't been kind to Calgary. The Flames have lost the last six games in the Motor City. Since relocating to the Stampede City, they have a 12-22-8 mark there.

WHO'S HOT:

FLAMES -- With the way goal scoring has dried up, Tony Amonte leads the pack of late with two goals and two assists in the last five games.

WINGS -- Defenceman Mathieu Schneider has four goals and one assist in the last two games. In six contests, he's netted nine points (4-5-9).

WHO'S NOT:

FLAMES -- After a torrid pace from late October through mid-November, Jarome Iginla has gone five games without a goal. He only has two assists in that span, too.

WINGS -- Kris Draper, who scored 24 goals in 2003-04, has only one tally this year in 25 games.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

POWERPLAY -- Calgary 14.9% (24-161, 22nd); Detroit 25% (38-152, 1st).

PENALTY KILLING -- Calgary 81% (21st); Detroit 84.3% (6th).

INJURIES:

FLAMES -- C Matthew Lombardi (high ankle sprain) is inching closer to a return.

WINGS -- D Jiri Fischer, whose seizure in which his heart stop put a scare in the hockey world just over a week ago, has been told to rest for around six weeks. Detroit may also be without C Robert Lang, who pulled a groin muscle in L.A. G Manny Legace (knee) and D Niklas Kronwall (knee) are on the shelf.

NOTABLES:

Goaltender Jimmy Howard, who made his debut a success by stopping 22 shots in the 5-2 win Monday night in Los Angeles, has already been named the starter by Wings coach Mike Babcock ... Calgary D Roman Hamrlik will skate in his 900th career game. The same goes for D Bryan Marchment next time he hits the ice ... In four of the last five games, Iginla has exceeded more than 25 minutes of ice time.
