Matthew Lombardi is finally in the home stretch of his return to action.

For the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain Oct. 17, the Flames centre returned to the ice yesterday, skating briefly prior to the team's practice at the Saddledome.

"It's getting better. It just takes time, the process," he said. "It was nice to get out there and feel the ice."

When he went down, Lombardi had three assists in six games.

He will go with the team on the five-game road trip that begins Tuesday in Nashville but has no idea when he'll play.

"We'll see. I'm hoping to get on the ice every day for the next while, get better every day and take it from there," he said. "I'm not really seeing exactly what date or anything like that."

The Montrealer also has big plans for today, with his hometown Alouettes about to face the Edmonton Eskimos in the Grey Cup.

"Season-ticket holder, right here," said Lombardi.
