TURNING POINT:

Flames D Robyn Regehr's floater from the point beat Sharks G Evgeni Nabokov 11:14 into the third to restore Calgary's one-goal lead.

BIG SAVE:

Flames G Miikka Kiprusoff robbed Sharks F Mark Smith on a two-on-one with nine minutes to play in regulation. F Milan Michalek grabbed a loose puck as he raced out of the penalty box and slipped a pass across to Smith, who was denied by Kiprusoff's right pad."

HARD HIT:

Flames F Tony Amonte skated gingerly off the ice in the second period after being hammered in the Sharks corner by D Kyle McLaren.

UNSUNG HERO:

F Chuck Kobasew displayed his talents at both ends of the ice and is developing into a consistent threat to score every night.

FIGHT CARD:

None.

SCRATCHES:

* FLAMES -- F Matthew Lombardi (ankle) is out indefinitely. D Bryan Marchment, D Steve Montador and F Jason Wiemer were healthy scratches.

* SHARKS -- G Vesa Toskala is on injured reserve. D Jim Fahey, F Nils Ekman and F Scott Parker sat out.

BURNING QUESTION:

How is it neither of the referees saw the obvious high sticks that smacked Andrew Ference and Shean Donovan during the game?

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Flames (14-8-2) exact revenge for their shootout loss to the Sharks at HP Pavilion last month and keep pace with the Vancouver Canucks atop the Northwest Division.

NOTEWORTHY:

With his third-period winner, Flames F Tony Amonte is now two short of 400 for his career ... Sharks F Wayne Primeau is sporting a pair of shiners on his black-and-blue mug thanks to a scrap with Phoenix Coyotes agitator Tyson Nash Saturday night ... Sharks F Grant Stevenson, the grandson of Hall of Fame goaltender Glenn Hall, scored his first NHL goal in his debut in the third period last night ... Sharks F Nils Ekman, San Jose's No. 2 point scorer during the last season, was a healthy scratch for the third time in four games. He has three goals and an assist in 17 games.
