NEXT GAME: COLORADO AVALANCHE AT CALGARY FLAMES

TOMORROW AT 8 P.M., TV: CBC, RADIO: FAN 960

SUN THREE STARS:

1. Jarome Iginla, Flames.

2. Curtis Joseph, Coyotes.

3. Steve Reinprecht, Flames.

TURNING POINT:

Leading by a goal in a game they should have had in hand, the Flames put the critical nail in the coffin in the third period when Jarome Iginla converted a penalty for the first time in his career.

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Curtis Joseph was all-world, making all kinds of saves to keep his team within shouting range in a game that should have been decided well before the midway point. His biggest stop was a breakaway attempt by Shean Donovan.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Yanick Lehoux was breaking into the Flames zone but was met head-on by Calgary defenceman Roman Hamrlik, who plowed the Coyotes rookie into the boards with a thunderous check.

The missed hit goes to Calgary's Dion Phaneuf, who thought he'd lined up David Tanabe in the neutral zone by the Flames bench but nearly went into the laps of his teammates instead.

UNSUNG HERO:

Jordan Leopold is snakebitten offensively but rounding nicely into form with a strong game leading the rush from his blueline post.

FIGHT CARD:

There were a few, notably Jarome Iginla who beat up Coyotes defenceman Keith Ballard late in the contest.

SCRATCHES:

Matthew Lombardi (ankle) remained in Calgary while D Steve Montador watched with LW Chris Simon (ribs) and Bryan Marchment (ribs). Calgarian Krystofer Kolanos was the lone healthy scratch for Phoenix, with D Denis Gauthier (broken finger), G Brian Boucher (groin), C Petr Nedved (infected elbow) and LW Tyson Nash (hip) on the shelf.

BURNING QUESTION:

Was Steve Reinprecht the best centre for Jarome Iginla all along?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN:

A five game winning streak to improve Calgary's record to 9-7-2 and climb higher in the Western Conference standings.

NOTABLES:

Krystofer Kolanos, who the Coyotes claimed in the first round of the 2000 draft held in Calgary, was placed on waivers yesterday and will head to the minors if he's not claimed.
