Before noon, Flames GM/head coach Darryl Sutter alluded more additions were coming.

By nightfall, the answer may have been known.

According to reports, the Flames have signed unrestricted free-agent defenceman Roman Hamrlik to a deal worth between $3 and $4 million US per season.

Sutter denied the report and Hamrlik's agent Ritch Winter offered a "no comment."

Hamrlik, 31, was chosen first overall by Tampa Bay in the 1992 draft. In 873 games with the Lightning, Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders, he's collected 117 goals and 324 assists.

Hamrlik's addition would likely mean a trade, with Toni Lydman and his $1.9-million US salary a probable candidate to be sent away.

Sutter said yesterday he likely wasn't done shopping.

"I still want to upgrade our team," he said yesterday. "As I said, I'm trying to win a championship at the same time as making it fit long term.

"That's exactly what we're doing. We're exactly where we want to be and we're not done."
