It's the little things that separate a prospect from a player. Take Brandon Prust's contribution to yesterday's intrasquad game for Flames hopefuls at Centennial Arenas.

Having dropped the gloves with Scott Gibson, Prust waited a few moments to size up his fellow combatant. Though five inches shorter and 25 lb. lighter, Prust let Gibson swing wildly before finally choosing the right time to unload.

And he did, sending a number of bombs to win the decision. Watching intently from above, Darryl Sutter wouldn't let it show but you know the GM-head coach was pleased.

"When I fight, I don't want to get too much emotion into it because that's when you'll lose or get beat," Prust said. "I just stay calm, stay composed and wait for your time. You've got to fight with your brain."

Prust and Gibson dropped the gloves a second time in yesterday's game, too.

"He wanted a rematch and I had to give it to him," Prust said matter of factly. "Guys want to redeem themselves and we don't have a second game to do it. It's nothing personal, just something we've got to show the coaches because it's part of the game."

The White squad won last night's clash, 2-1, thanks to goals from Cam Cunning and Dustin Johner. Kevin Harvey tallied for Team Black in the physical, yet scrambly contest. Proving there will be a good battle for the single AHL spot in Lowell, both Brent Krahn and Sebastien Centomo looked particularly sharp between the pipes.

Prust, drafted 70th overall, potted 19 goals, 52 points and 269 penalty minutes in the regular season with the London Knights.

Sutter said at the draft he's already close to being NHL ready, so at his first NHL camp, Prust is gunning for a contract that will allow him to jump to the AHL.

"It's what I'm shooting for. It's up to them," he said. "Another year in the (OHL) is good for me, we've got the Memorial Cup in London and it's a good place to play."

So will tonight's match in Edmonton when the Flames prospects face a collection from the Oilers at Clare Drake Arena.
