Patrick Kaleta is going to appeal the 10-game suspension he received from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan Tuesday, an option available to the Buffalo Sabres’ forward under the new collective bargaining agreement.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the appeal gets by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman (be interesting if he makes it longer) and makes it to a neutral arbitrator.

Kaleta, who received the suspension for hitting Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Jack Johnson in the head with his shoulder, has been fined or suspended six times in the last four seasons.

Working in Kaleta’s favour is the fact Johnson wasn’t seriously injured on the play.
