BUFFALO - Buffalo Sabres center Derek Roy suffered a torn left quad in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Florida and will undergo surgery within the next few days, the team announced on Friday.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss the next 4-to-6 months.

Roy, the club's leading scorer with 35 points (10 goals and 25 assists) in 35 games, suffered the injury early in the contest when he was checked into the boards by Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov while skating the puck into the Florida zone.
