Boston Bruins defenceman Johnny Boychuk was stretchered off the ice Thursday in Montreal and sent to hospital after flying face-first into the boards on a hit from Canadiens winger Max Pacioretty.
Bruins head coach Claude Julien told reporters after the game Boychuk returned to the Bell Centre to depart with the team. According to CSNNE, the blueliner suffered a lower back injury that's not believed to be serious.
Boychuk was chasing a puck in the corner of Montreal’s zone in the first period when Pacioretty delivered the shoulder-to-shoulder hit. Boychuk fell awkwardly into the boards and was able to get on his knees before being wheeled away.
Pacioretty received a two-minute boarding penalty.
It was an eerie twist of fate. Nearly three years ago in the same building it was Pacioretty being carted off the ice after he was driven face-first into a stanchion by Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara.
