Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas is contemplating sitting out next season, as confirmed by Boston management.

After his name has been mentioned in trade talks, Thomas said through sources he could take next season off, ESPN.com and TSN.ca reported.

The hero of the Bruins' Stanley Cup title run last season, is entering the final year of his contract that pays him $3 million and his no-trade clause expires July 1. This season Thomas, 38, had a 35-19 record and a 2.40 goals-against average.

Thomas caused a backlash among fans when he boycotted the team's celebratory trip to the White House in January.

The Bruins have a possible No. 1 goaltender in Tuukka Rask, who briefly replaced Thomas as the starter in 2009-10. He has a 47-35 record in 102 NHL games.
