BOSTON - The Boston Bruins have signed veteran defenseman Shane Hnidy to a one-year contract.

Hnidy was with the Bruins in Vancouver prior to Saturday's game against the Canucks, but has not been cleared to play by the team's medical staff. That's because Hnidy suffered a shoulder injury during training camp with Phoenix and he hasn't played this entire season.

The 35-year-old Hnidy has appeared in 547 NHL games, with 16 goals and 55 assists, having played for Ottawa, Nashville, Atlanta, the Bruins, Anaheim, and Minnesota. He totaled two goals and 12 assists over 70 contests for the Wild last season.
