BOSTON - The Boston Bruins have signed unrestricted free agent Miroslav Satan to a one-year deal.

Satan, 35, spent last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, contributing 17 goals and 36 points in 65 games. He added a goal and five assists during the Penguins' cup-winning playoff run.

"He's a guy that has shown he is capable of scoring some goals and we hope he will give us some of that and also provide some competition," Bruins coach Claude Julien told nhl.com Saturday.

The Slovakian left-winger has played in 1,012 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh, compiling career totals of 354 goals and 721 points. He enjoyed his best seasons with the Sabres, scoring a career-high 40 goals in 1998-99 and reaching 75 points in 2002-03.

Despite not playing competitive hockey for the first three months of the season, Satan was named to the Slovakian Olympic team Tuesday.
