The Boston Bruins should store last night's game in a Pearson Airport locker and guard the claim ticket closely.

Initially wary of a two-game road trip to Toronto, they decided in advance to fly home after last night and return Monday afternoon to complete the series on Tuesday. But they probably felt like soaking up their day off here after a 3-1 win, their first by a margin of more than one goal this year.

"For me, this was our best game of the season," coach Dave Lewis said. "From the offence, the defence, the goaltending, the power play and the playmaking, it was a very good collective effort. We have very little margin of error right now."

The Bruins bounced back from Friday's 5-1 defeat to the Carolina Hurricanes, in which Lewis claimed that every player except goalie Tim Thomas was off his game.

"We thought about staying over (until Tuesday), but we just came off three games in four nights during American Thanksgiving," Lewis said. "It's a short flight back and then will give them (today) off at home."

The Bruins have now taken two of three from the Leafs.

"This is going to make us feel better all weekend long," Thomas said.

"Our goal was to go up top on (Leafs goalie Andrew Raycroft) and we got some nice ones up top," said Marc Savard, who had the second Boston goal.

MARKER

Brad Boyes, well-known as a one-time Maple Leaf draft pick, had the third marker and another former Toronto chattel, winger Petr Tenkrat, opened the scoring.

Tenkrat spent three years as a paper Leaf, his rights claimed in the 2003 waiver draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Czech played the past four years for club teams in Russia and Finland.

"I was waiting for an offer from Toronto," Tenkrat said. "This past June, my agent said there is a possibility you will be traded by Toronto to Boston (an eventual deal for a seventh-round pick on draft day). I said, 'Why not, this might be my last chance to get back in the NHL.' "
