The Anaheim Ducks have rolled through this regular season.

The real test begins next month.

With a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night, the Ducks moved to within two points of the St. Louis Blues for first place in the Western Conference with the stretch drive in full swing.

The Ducks are all but assured a playoff spot, but all eyes will be on them in the post-season, particularly in the West where some good teams are all but assured to be headed home after Round 1.

Coach Bruce Boudreau has done a terrific job with the Ducks. He will be a candidate for coach-of-the-year and, as the voting is based on regular-season success, he’ll be right up there.

But the big test for Boudreau now is to push the right buttons in the post-season. In four playoff appearances with the Washington Capitals, his club made it beyond the first round only twice.

Last spring, the Ducks lost in seven games in the first round. Boudreau needs to show he can push this club to the next level. No easy task out there.
