The Anaheim Ducks are the NHL’s red-headed stepchild.

Everybody around the hockey world has, at one time or another, fawned over the Chicago Blackhawks or the St. Louis Blues or the Boston Bruins or the Pittsburgh Penguins — and rightfully so. But the Ducks appear forgotten when the league’s powers are mentioned.

“They are quietly the best team nobody talks about, for sure,” said TSN analyst and 18-year NHLer Ray Ferraro. “They’re big. They can skate. They can score. There may be the thought they’re a little thin.

“But after a while, with what they’ve done, you have to buy in.”

It’s amazing how little attention has been paid to the Ducks, although that finally may disappear after their 9-1 lambasting of the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night.
