Ryan Getzlaf signs 8-year extension with Ducks

Technically, the Happiest Place on Earth is located about five kilometres down the road.

But in the eyes of Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, the Honda Center is the hockey equivalent of Disneyland.

The 27-year-old centre signed an eight-year, US $66-million contract extension with the Ducks Friday, staying put in SoCal and striking a big name off the NHL’s list of soon-to-be unrestricted free agents.

“I love it here,” Getzlaf said. “Everyone around here — my friends and teammates and everybody — knows that this is where I wanted to be. I’ve always envisioned myself playing for one organization and with this deal, we’re able to do that.”

Getzlaf, who was in the final year of his previous pact, is now under contract to the Ducks through the 2020-21 season, with an annual salary cap hit of $8.25 million.

  Lindy Ruff.
  Andy Murray.
  Jacques Martin.
