ANAHEIM - Ryan Getzlaf will be out indefinitely, after the Anaheim Ducks forward underwent further tests to determine the extent of damage from an incident earlier in the week.
Getzlaf was placed on injured reserve Thursday with multiple nasal sinus fractures, one day after a CT scan revealed injuries that were caused when he took a puck to the forehead during Tuesday's win over Phoenix.
On Friday, the rugged winger visited with a maxillofacial surgeon, and had another CT scan which revealed those fractures were non-displaced and stable. For the time being, he has been ruled out of action for an indefinite period of time until a further evaluation of the bone breaks can be made.
The 25-year-old captain has 13 goals and leads the team with 24 assists over 40 games this season, his sixth in the NHL.
