ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Anaheim Ducks announced on Saturday that defenseman Andy Sutton will be out after suffering a broken thumb, and that defenseman Brett Festerling was recalled from Syracuse of the AHL to take his place on the roster.

Sutton, who was signed to a two-year contract in the off-season, fractured his right thumb while fighting Red Wings backliner Ruslan Salei in Detroit on Friday. There is no timetable for his return.

Sutton, 35, split last season with the Islanders and Senators and totaled five goals and eight assists to go with 107 penalty minutes in 72 games. His 204 blocked shots last year ranked second in the league.

Festerling posted three assists in 42 games with the Ducks a season ago.
