EDMONTON - As a cornerstone of the Edmonton Oilers first rebuild following their Stanley Cup run, Sam Gagner wanted to see things through.

However, having never played an NHL playoff game, the time had come for a fresh start.

Gagner is a member of the Arizona Coyotes now and will be attending their training camp in September.

“I loved being an Oiler, I poured a lot into it,” Gagner said Thursday at the Perry Pearn 3-on-3 hockey camp. “I love the passion this city has for hockey. But for me, it’s a great opportunity to start something new and it should be good, it should be a lot of fun down there.

“I don’t think it’s really hit yet, at this time of the year I would be doing this anyway (Perry Pearn). I think when you go to camp is when it kind of sinks in. I’m excited about the challenge, it should be a good one for me and I look forward to going there.”
