WINNIPEG - The writing was already on the wall, but Olli Jokinen officially became a former member of the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.

Jokinen, a 35-year-old centre, signed a one-year deal with the Nashville Predators worth $2.5 million, is $2 million less than he made with the Jets last season.

“Olli was happy to be in Winnipeg, enjoyed being a Jet and really liked playing for Paul Maurice,” said agent Ian Pulver, who represents Jokinen. “Did they appreciate Olli? I think they appreciated him, but I guess not enough to make a push to bring him back.

“Olli is a proud guy, a proud professional and he’s looking forward to playing where he’s wanted the most.”

By signing Mathieu Perreault on Tuesday, the Jets essentially moved on for Jokinen, who signed a two-year deal worth $9 million on the opening day of free agency in 2012.
