Goaltender Brian Elliott signed a three-year contract extension with the St. Louis Blues, which all but eliminates the possibility of Ryan Miller returning next season.

Elliott was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, as is Miller, who was acquired at midseason via trade and has stated a preference to play on the West Coat.

Elliott's deal will not guarantee him the starting spot, and more likely means the Blues are ready to usher in 2008 draft pick Jake Allen. The 23-year-old was endorsed by GM Doug Armstrong last month after he was an all-rookie pick in the AHL.

"He's earned the right -- he will be one of the two. Who his partner will be will be discussed at the appropriate time, and that will be over the next few weeks," Armstrong said in April.

Miller can expect many suitors, including Washington, San Jose and possibly PIttsburgh. All three teams ended the season with some uncertainty at the position.
