Free agent NFL receiver Plaxico Burress took a beating on Twitter Wednesday night when his Pittsburgh Penguins tweet drew the ire of hockey fans.

The 36-year-old Burress, who last played for the Steelers in 2013, apparently thought NHL games were 40 minutes long.

With the Pens leading 2-1 heading into the third period, the former Super Bowl champion prematurely celebrated Pittsburgh’s eventual 4-2 win over the New York Rangers.

And while this isn’t as bad as accidentally shooting yourself in the leg – you’ll remember Burress was sentenced to two years in prison in 2009 for a bizarre nightclub incident – relentless Twitter trolls took the opportunity to remind him of his criminal past.

Burress, though, pulled out the ultimate trump card when asked if he was a psychic -- something he'll carry with him for the rest of his life.

While playing with the New York Giants in 2008, Burress correctly predicted his team would beat the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
