The NHL's love affair with outdoor games doesn't appear to be temporary.
After a six games scheduled for the 2013-14 season, next year will likely see four more, TSN reported Wednesday morning.
Teams interested in hosting a throwback game include Montreal, Ottawa, San Jose, Phoenix, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota.
As well, the Toronto Maple Leafs are "pushing hard" to host the Winter Classic, the most-anticipated regular season game of the year. Toronto took part in this year's Winter Classic, downing the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, in a shootout.
This year's other host cities include New York (twice), Los Angeles, Chicago and Vancouver.
Once all six outdoor games are complete -- there are three left, including Wednesday's tilt in New York between the Islanders and Rangers at Yankee Stadium -- the league and its players' association will have generated about $20 million in revenue, according to TSN.
