Two-time Stanley Cup winner Jamie Langenbrunner retired Wednesday, ending his 16-year NHL career.

Langenbrunner, a native of Cloquet, Minn., won the Stanley Cup in 1999 with the Dallas Stars and in 2003 with the New Jersey Devils. He captained the Devils during his nine-season tenure in New Jersey.

"It was a dream come true to have the opportunity to play in the NHL for 16 seasons," Langenbrunner said in a statement released by the NHLPA. "The friendships I developed with my teammates, and also the people in the communities where I played, will always be cherished by my family and I."

Langenbrunner played 1,109 NHL games with the Stars, Devils and St. Louis Blues, recording 243 goals and 420 assists. He played just four games for the Blues last season due to a torn labrum in his left hip.

The 38-year-old also captained the U.S. team that lost to Canada in the gold-medal game at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

DATSYUK WEARING C

Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk will reportedly captain the Russian team at the Olympics in Sochi.

Multiple media outlets in Russia are reporting that Datsyuk will wear the C for his country in his fourth Olympic appearance. He didn't wear a letter at the Vancouver Olympics.

Red Wings forward (and captain) Henrik Zetterberg will wear the C for Sweden in Sochi. Detroit has 10 players going to the Olympics, as well as coach Mike Babcock, who will guide the Canadian squad.

BRIEFLY

The New York Islanders sent forward Ryan Strome to Bridgeport of the AHL to clear a roster spot for Radek Martinek, who was activated off IR. Strome, the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NHL draft, had one goal and three assists in 15 games with the Isles ... Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and might not play Thursday against the Nashville Predators. Hartnell was hurt Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
