Buffalo Sabres interim coach Ted Nolan wasted little time putting the heat on his players.

Just over a week on the job, Nolan declared Friday "the gloves are officially off" and threatened to bench players who weren't playing up to snuff.

"Now we got to do certain things in order to play," Nolan told the Oleans Times Herald. "If you don't, you're not."

In particular, Nolan was upset with the number of penalties his team took after giving up a power-play goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

"Penalties are going to stop (or) people who are doing it are not going to be in the lineup. It's plain and simple as that."

DEVILS GOALIES RIDING HIGH

New Jersey Devils goaltenders Cory Schneider and Martin Brodeur received high praise from Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter.

"Tough to score," Sutter told L.A. Kings Insider of the duo. "They have the best goaltending in the league over there. We just witnessed it last week."

Times are good in the Devils locker room. The club is now a 9-8-5 after starting the season 0-4-3.

The 41-year-old Brodeur is 5-0-0 in his last five games with a .952 save percentage. His heir apparent, 27-year-old Schneider, has gone 1-2-2 over his last five games but boasts an impressive .935 save percentage and has allowed just three goals in his past three starts.

JAGR HITS MILESTONES

Jaromir Jagr got three for the price of one Thursday when he scored against the Los Angeles Kings .

Not only did his overtime marker give the New Jersey Devils a win, he tied Gordie Howe for most career NHL game-winning goals, with 121. It was also his 690th career NHL goal, tying him with former teammate and Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux for ninth on the all-time list.

Jagr also has 1,016 career NHL assists to go with his goal total and has 1,706 points in 1,413 games.
