The Columbus Blue Jackets’ scoring issues will likely become more pronounced over the next month or so.
Forward Marian Gaborik, the Jackets’ top pure scorer, will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee. Columbus coach Todd Richards preferred to be a little more cautiously optimistic about the recovery of Gaborik, who was hurt Thursday, saying it would likely be 3-4 weeks.
Gaborik has been splumping lately, with just one point (an assist) in his last eight games, but his loss will definitely hurt the Blue Jackets, who have averaged just 2.5 goals per game with him in the lineup.
“There’s a hole because there was a threat,” Richards told the Columbus Dispatch. “We’ve talked about that before. Gabby has proven he can score at this level. I know he was in a kind of a baseball slump. But goal scorers go through those."
