SAN JOSE - There are a few tight collars behind benches around the NHL these days.

Three games into the season and already coach Peter Laviolette has been fired by the Philadelphia Flyers. Whether you blame GM Paul Holmgren or not, he had the last word and Laviolette was the first to pay the price.

“When you see one team make a coaching change there can most definitely be a domino effect. No question about it, especially if the Flyers have success with Craig Berube. It can get a GM thinking,” a league executive said.

While many came into the season thinking Calgary bench boss Bob Hartley wouldn’t last, that’s just foolish. The club has no expectations, the players have bought into his program and he isn’t going anywhere.

The focus, at the moment, is on Florida Panthers coach Kevin Dineen. They didn’t look good during the shortened season after making the playoffs in 2011-12 and new owner Vincent Viola wants to have immediate success.
