When Team Canada hopefuls gathered in Calgary for Olympic orientation camp in August, Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Bernier were nowhere to be found.

Fleury had been too inconsistent the past couple of years, with some scouts wondering if he had “lost” his form. Bernier, meanwhile, simply didn’t have a complete enough body of work at the NHL level, having spent his career backing up superstar Jonathan Quick in L.A. before being traded to the Maple Leafs.

But when it comes to the Canadian Olympic team, out of sight doesn’t necessarily mean out of mind. And, given the outstanding starts of both Fleury and Bernier entering play Saturday, both are among those who are on the radar of Team Canada officials.

Sure, the season is less than two weeks young. Far too early to come to conclusions.

At the same time, Olympic wannabes like Fleury and Bernier should know this: You are being watched.
