NHL season only week old but we've learned plenty

The NHL season is a week old, a small sample size but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been an eventful seven days.

The seeds of what could be some interesting trends have already been planted.

Here are five random thoughts about the opening week and what we might see going forward:

1. SO MUCH FOR THE LOCKOUT: The NHL’s popularity might be closing in on an all-time high, if you go by the television ratings in Canada. The CBC reports 2.6 million Canadians watched the prime-time game in the Eastern Conference Saturday night between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators, making it the most viewed premiere to a season in the East on record.
