Some fantasy things that caught our eye during the first four days of the NHL schedule, and whether they are real or imagined:

The smaller goalie pads look like they may play a significant role early on, at least until netminders adjust to them. So concerned about the larger five-hole being presented to opposing shooters, goalies seem to be over-compensating by closing their legs more quickly and exposing the corners.

A quick run through video highlights of every goal scored on Tuesday’s opening night suggested (word chosen carefully) that there were too many goals -- most on low shots -- on which wider pads might’ve gotten a piece of the puck.
