BRANTFORD, Ont. — A statue in tribute to Wayne Gretzky, unveiled Sunday in the Great One's hometown, was vandalized late last night.

City workers were out Tuesday morning, scrubbing paint from a pair of bronze monuments — one of a young Gretzky in a hockey jersey, flanked by his parents, Walter and Phyllis, and another of him holding the Stanley Cup over his head.

The statues stand in front of the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, also officially opened Sunday.

"It's a great honour for, not only me but, our entire family," Gretzky said after officially cutting the ribbon to the centre on Sunday.
