Tim Thomas will sign with the Florida Panthers as soon as the club is officially sold to New York businessman Vinnie Viola later this week.

According to TSN, Viola is believed to be purchasing the Panthers for $250 million, a price that doesn’t include BB&T Center, the county-owned arena the Panthers call home.

The NHL Board of Governors has reportedly already approved the deal.

Thomas signed a professional tryout contract with the Panthers last week. The report goes on to say Florida has been impressed with the 39-year-old two-time Vezina Trophy winner’s pre-season form.

Thomas has yet to appear in a pre-season game but could make his debut as early as Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning if the deal proceeds.

STALBERG OUT INJURED

Nashville Predators forward Viktor Stalberg suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday night's exhibition game against the Tampa Bay and will be out 3-4 weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

Stalberg went down in the first period of the game against the Lightning and didn't return to the ice.

The Swede is starting his first season with the Predators after signing a four-year, $12 million contract during the summer.

The 27-year-old played for the Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks last season. He produced nine goals and 14 assists during the regular season but had no goals and three assists in 19 playoff games.
