Yeah, you’re not supposed to pay attention to pre-season statistics but, what the heck. Here are some names that have drawn our attention over the first week of exhibition games.

Evander Kane has taken a whopping 17 shots on goal in his first three exhibition games with the Jets, scoring twice. Kane has averaged 3.2 shots per game over his four NHL seasons but appears determined to take the Jets on his back to their first playoff berth this year. He’s a solid bet to become one of those cherished 30-goal, 100-PIM skaters this season. Draft with confidence.

Panthers’ rising defenceman Erik Gudbranson has two goals and two assists in two games, but the key ‘two’ here is the one with the plus beside it in +/- column. He also has taken a dozen shots. Drafted third overall in 2010, the hulking blueliner remains a work in progress with just a dozen points over 104 games and a minus-41 rating but his upside is still worth speculating on.
