WINNIPEG - Tributes are pouring in for Winnipegger Don Baizley, one of the NHL’s most respected player agents, who died of cancer at age 71 on Thursday.

Baizley represented some of the biggest names in hockey, including Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Theo Fleury and Anders Hedberg.

His reasonable, common-sense style drew praise over the years from both sides of the bargaining table.

“He defined integrity and honour,” fellow agent Allan Walsh said via his Twitter account. “Heaven just got one helluva sports agent.”

A member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame, Baizley was instrumental in the European influence on the game, representing Hedberg and fellow Swede Ulf Nilsson when they joined the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association in the 1970s.
