The Western Conference matchups have been decided but the Eastern Conference has come down to the final day of the 2013 NHL season.

Sunday's game between the eighth-place Ottawa Senators and fourth-place Boston Bruins will determine the post-season fates of several Eastern Conference teams. The game was postponed from earlier in the season due to the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings. The only pairing set in the East is the New York Rangers taking on the Washington Capitals.

Here are the possibilities up for grabs:

  • Ottawa wins in regulation - Bruins play Toronto Maple Leafs, Senators face the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Islanders take on the Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Ottawa wins in OT or shootout win - Penguins take on Islanders, Senators face Canadiens, Leafs meet Bruins
  • Boston OT win or shootout win - Bruins play Senators, Leafs face Canadiens, Islanders meet Penguins
  • Boston wins in regulation - Bruins face Islanders, Senators take on Penguins, Leafs face Habs

There are no such complications in the Western Conference - all the matchups have been decided.

The top-ranked Chicago Blackhawks will battle the eighth-place Minnesota Wild while the second-place Anaheim Ducks face off against the seventh-place Detroit Red Wings. The third-place Vancouver Canucks meet the sixth-place San Jose Sharks and the fourth-place St. Louis Blues play the fifth-place Los Angeles Kings.

The 2013 NHL playoffs begin on Tuesday.
