When Ben Bishop and Mark Fraser were changing their hockey addresses at the trade deadline a year ago, they were mere footnotes to the more glamorous big-name deals such as the Jeff Carter-to-Los Angeles swap.

At that particular time, who would have ever guessed that, just one year later, both players would be key cogs for their respective teams when Bishop’s Senators hosted Fraser’s Leafs in the Battle of Ontario on Saturday?

Such is the potential significance that the so-called “smaller deals” can have for teams, both immediately and down the road.
