Caps coach Oates takes hard-line stance on Sochi

Capitals head coach Adam Oates raised a few eyebrows with his comments related to his anti-Olympic stance. Meanwhile, a player he coaches, Washington forward Alex Ovechkin, will be a torchbearer at the Sochi Games. (REUTERS)

While the NHL, NHLPA, IOC and International Ice Hockey Federation spent time this past week making inroads on a potential deal that would allow pros to participate at the 2014 Sochi Games, it was hard not to chuckle at the anti-Olympic stance taken by Washington Capitals coach Adam Oates.
