TORONTO - Will John Tavares be motivated by the fact that he was omitted from the projected 2014 Team Canada Olympic rosters by esteemed QMI colleagues Chris Stevenson, Bruce Garrioch and Randy Sportak?

Probably not.

In reality, the New York Islanders star doesn’t need any added fuel on the fire that burns inside of him to earn a spot on the team. He’s already highly stoked at the opportunity to impress Canadian GM Steve Yzerman.

“It would be a dream cone true,” Tavares said. “I have represented Canada at world juniors and world championships, and it is such a special feeling.”

For players such as Tavares looking to crack an Olympic roster for the first time, they thirst for the experience. For guys such as Eric Staal and Rick Nash who helped Canada win gold in Vancouver in 2010, they want another taste.
