COLUMBUS, Ohio — Look at that.

There are still trades being made in the NHL.

Granted, this week’s action didn’t include anything earth-shattering, but in the last few days, we saw the New York Rangers deal Mike Rupp to the Minnesota Wild for Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri, the Pittsburgh Penguins trade Ben Lovejoy to the Anaheim Ducks for a fifth-round draft choice, and the New Jersey Devils send a fifth-round pick to the Los Angeles Kings for Andrei Loktionov, who was subsequently sent to the minors. The Tim Thomas trade from the Boston Bruins to the New York Islanders could be bigger than the others, provided he comes out of his exile and reports.

Four swaps. All legitimate hockey trades. No salary dumps.

Hallelujah.

Sports is supposed to be about fun, and part of that pleasure is the wheeling and dealing.

The Vancouver Canucks should replace ex-coach Alain Vigneault with...
  Guy Boucher.
  Lindy Ruff.
  Andy Murray.
  Jacques Martin.
  Brent Sutter.
  Don Hay.
  Other.
