NHL has lots of work to do before season starts
By BRUCE GARRIOCH, QMI Agency

The NHL still has plenty of items to check off before games resume. (LYLE ASPINALL/QMI Agency)

Paperwork, not the lockout, is now holding up the start of the NHL season.

While teams are allowed to open their doors to players before the new collective bargaining agreement is ratified, training camps won’t start until the NHL and NHL Players’ Association have signed off on the deal they agreed to Sunday morning.

The league’s board of governors will gather Wednesday in New York to ratify the agreement. Once that is done, the teams will try to open camps Saturday, but they’ll only do so if members of the NHLPA have ratified as well.
