NHL, NHLPA at edge of the cliff
Push might be best for hockey fansBy PAUL FRIESEN, QMI Agency
WINNIPEG - I don’t know what millionaires and billionaires get their families for Christmas, but it’s time they set their toys aside. NHL types got to spend extended holiday time at home, for a change, no doubt a silver lining to the amount of gold they’ve lost. So now there’s no reason for them not to hammer out a new CBA. After all, the alternative isn’t pretty, right? Or is it? If the NHL and the NHLPA are, indeed, heading towards the edge of a cliff, what’s over it? Will the league even be in business for the start of next season? There’s no guarantee of that if the union decertifies and the two sides end up in a long court battle. What will the league look like whenever it does throw the doors open again? I put the question out on Twitter, and a common theme emerged.
