NHL Playoffs: DET @ CHI

Frustrated with lockout, NHL fans pile on insults over Christmas card
By QMI Agency

The NHL posted this Christmas card on it's Facebook page Dec. 19. (Facebook)

It's a holiday greeting that's gone terribly wrong.

With no NHL hockey to cheer for this winter, fans are displaying a lack of Christmas spirit when it comes to the league and its lockout that reached Day 100 on Christmas Eve.

The NHL posted a holiday card on its Facebook page Dec. 19. Despite getting over 4,000 "likes" and being shared by over 700 people, there are nearly 5,000 comments on the photo as of Monday night, mostly of fans telling the league where it can shove its greeting.

Among the cheery comments:

"Thanks NHL! Now kindly suck my Christmas ornaments."

"Screw you Bettman you narcissistic egotistical little twerp. You have ruined this game. The fans hate you. The players hate you. You are without a doubt the most hated man in sports."

"Your greetings are meaningless. Us fans do not appreciate being patronized. How about quit playing games with the NHLPA and sign a fair CBA."

"I hope you ALL involved have a HORRIBLE CHRISTMAS!!!!"

It didn't help that a day after the card was posted the NHL cancelled games through Jan. 14.

As for the fate of the season as a whole, fans will have to wait until 2013 to see if the league can come to terms on a new CBA with the NHL Players' Association.
