Learning the ABCs was big when I was a youngster.

But learning every NHL team, in alphabetical order, is something I can more distinctly remember being proud of.

You bet it was a big part of a hockey-crazed childhood, filled with hockey cards, books and playing any time possible, whether it was at the rink, on a pond, in the driveway or with rulers at school.

Atlanta, Boston, Buffalo ... all the way through to Washington.

(Yes, it was before the WHA merger. California and Kansas City were also part of the mix.)

Today, thanks to the NHL lockout that's reached Day 99 with Christmas just a couple of sleeps away, I honestly don't care whether the NHL owners and the players come to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement in time to save the 2012-13 season.

Or the 2013-14 campaign.

And that's despite the massive impact the non-NHL season has on my life and my pocketbook.
