Breaking up is hard to do, but the NHL Players’ Association will start the process Sunday.

After the NHL was first out of the gate Friday by filing a class action complaint at the federal court in New York and an unfair labour practice charge with the National Labour Relations Board, the union is getting ready to fight back.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the QMI Agency in an email Saturday the NHL had to take action after reports surfaced Friday the union will take a vote to get permission to file a disclaimer of interest.

Daly called the actions by the NHLPA “nonsense”.
