New approach to NHL CBA talks seems to be working
By CHRIS STEVENSON, QMI Agency, QMI Agency
As they broke for dinner in what was hopefully the middle of talks, the solution to the (acronym mashup warning) NHL/NHLPA CBA impasse was, as my Quebecois friends would say, for both sides to "mettre de l'eau dans son vin."
It's a phrase meaning to put some water in their wine, to expect a little less or take a more moderate approach to things.
There's been progress (traction for me refers to what my snow tires are or aren't doing) over the last couple of days, though things were considerably less optimistic coming out of the dinner break Wednesday night than they had been 24 hours earlier.
That's what happens when it comes time to put spoken good intentions and concepts into hard numbers on a piece of paper, with which both sides will have to live for the next few years.
