Jeff O'Neill to Bettman: 'Wanna make whole in your (F-------) head'
By QMI Agency
It appears Cory Schneider’s plea for peace has fallen on deaf ears.
A day after the Vancouver Canucks goalie hit back against the plethora of “personal” attacks recently hurled against NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, a former NHLer launched an additional verbal assault against the league’s top boss Wednesday afternoon.
“I have friends in the media and respect their work a ton,” Jeff O’Neill tweeted from his verified Twitter account, “but the reporting of zero in this lockout is crazy.”
Twenty minutes later O'Neill returned to the web, adding to the ongoing war of words against the NHL’s perennial bad guy.
“And (Gary) Bettman stop talking to the media. I wanna 'make whole' in your (F------) head,” he wrote, an obvious dig against the back-and-forth struggle to hammer out the CBA’s “make whole” provision, a plan to reimburse existing contracts through the first few years of a new deal.
O'Neill later removed the tweet from his personal account.
He followed that up with an apology: "My last tweet was inappropriate. Someone hacked my acct."
On Tuesday, Schneider commented on the multitude of attacks radiating from the mouths of fellow NHLers. Detroit Red Wings defenceman Ian White recently called the league’s top boss an “idiot” before Florida Panthers forward Kris Versteeg called Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly a pair of “cancers.”
"It's getting a little personal," Schneider told Sportsnet. "We'd like to think we are adults and can handle this in an appropriate way.”
O’Neill, who spent time with the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs after being drafted by the Hartford Whalers in 1994, collected 496 points in 821 regular season games during his 11-year NHL career.
WAR OF WORDS
A number of NHLers have hurled insults at the league and its owners the last few months. Here are a few of the most notable -- and offensive:
Bruins centre David Krejci to Czech publication iSport.cz …
“(Bettman) does what he wants. We want to play, we're the ones who are (negotiating). It is unfortunate that the NHL have such a guy. It's a shame for the entire hockey world. (He) treats us like animals … Bettman took during the last lockout $3.5 million, now it's at $8 million.”
Florida Panthers forward Kris Versteeg on TSN radio …
"I'm really frustrated. It's not good. You do try to look at the best-case scenarios moving forward once the CBA does get done and you've got to look for the cancers and you've got to cut out cancers. I think when you look at Bill Daly and Bettman, they've been polluting this game for far too long. I think in order to get the fans tastes back in their mouth I think you've got to look at (firing them), especially when the CBA is over."
Detroit Red Wings defenceman Ian White to Motown reporters …
“I gotta be honest: I personally think (Bettman’s) an idiot. Since he’s come in, I think he’s done nothing but damage the game.”
San Jose Sharks winger Martin Havlat to CSSNE.com …
“I think it helps that the fans get to hear what we already know. We're not humans in their eyes; we're just pieces of meat that get to eat some grass for awhile."
Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic to CSSNE.com …
“You'd think people would treat you better than as just an animal.”
